Classic 2000AD

Here's a nice thing...

A Kevin O'Neill 2000AD cover. He didn't do much Judge Dredd as far as I can remember. I reckon this might be his only stab at The Dark Judges - any 2000AD nuts out there are welcome to correct me on that one if I'm wrong. Anyway, lovely piece of work dontcha think? Can't look at it without humming THIS though.

On the back of that prog there's a smashing Bryan Talbot Torquemada pin-up...

2000AD used to be wicked didn't it?

Scans from 2000AD prog 419, 25 May 1985.
As ever, you can click the pics to embiggen 'em!

I really need to read some 2000AD, right?

Are they collected well? Or are they best experienced with yellowing paper coming off on your fingers?

I seem to remember my uncle giving me a couple of his old issues, or maybe that was Starlog...

StarLORD. I think I had some Starlogs as well. And the first two issues of the Marvel Star Wars comic.

That early to mid-Eighties run is one of the finest runs of comics ever, in my opinion. So many classic strips from that era.

Mike, the new complete collections they are releasing are very good, but it must be said there's something wonderful about the old crappy newsprint. Also, they were made to be read as anthologies so are actually smoother reads in that format, as often the last panel is reworked as the first panel of the next chapter.

Also, there is still a huge amount of material that's never been collected. I have to admit, as much as I don't have space for a massive pile of mouldering 2000ADs, I'm jealous as hell of Dom's recent score.

Mr Salmond, I already had most of those mid 80s issues from when I was a nipper, so now have duplicates of many. When you eventually move into your new big pad you can have em as a housewarming present if you like.

Mike, here's a cheeky website where you can read old 2000AD from prog #1!
